The Township Clerk maintains the general ledger, including preparation of the township warrants for checks.

The Clerk’s office has custody of all of the Township records. The Clerk is responsible for all meeting notices and maintains all minutes of meetings.

The Clerk’s office also keeps custody of the official Township Book of Oaths.

The primary duty of the Clerk is to run elections. The Clerk chairs all election commission meetings, conducts all elections, and is responsible for the voter registration files. In Burt Township, the Clerk is also certified to train election workers and recommend them for State Certification. The Clerk keeps the township ordinance book, prepares financial statements, and delivers tax certificates to the supervisor and county clerk.

The Clerk must post a surety bond and appoint a deputy.
