Several crimes were reported in Grand Marais over the past year. As supervisor, I find it important to note that Burt Township takes these reports very seriously. I’ve spoken with both Alger County Sheriff Todd Brock and Michigan State Police Lieutenant Thomas Nolan about these reported crimes and have been assured everything is still under investigation. In addition, I’ve spoken with our County Commissioners ensuring the Alger County Police Department have the resources needed to do their jobs effectively.
You can find our newly added “Law Enforcement” page on Burttownship.com. Included will be the contract between Burt Township and Alger County Sheriff’s Department, a letter from Sheriff Brock on summer patrol, summer patrol statistics, and patrol financials. You’ll see officers have been busy in our community! We have these resources available to us; let’s use them. It’s important to be proactive and to report any unlawful activity.
Our tourism is booming in summer and winter! Remember to lock your homes, vehicles, and sheds. Most importantly, look out for your neighbor. Grand Marais is a wonderful place to be, let’s keep it that way. So, remember folks, if you see something, say something.
